Chairperson’s Address
As Chairperson of LTAG it gives me great pride to present Laois Traveller Action Groups Annual Report for 2024.
2024 has been a year of significant growth and development for LTAG. We have embarked on successful new projects whilst continuing the growth of current ones. Our dedicated team from both the Travelling and settled community work tirelessly together to ensure all needs of Travellers living in Co. Laois are met. Limited funding sometimes makes this challenging, but this never deters the team.
The work the team have carried out in 2024 has provided vital support to families and individuals throughout many issues they face such as discrimination, mental health, accommodation and education.
However, there are many supports LTAG would like to be able to offer the Travelling community but due to lack of funding this is impossible. Through the Travelling to Wellbeing Service offered by Offaly Traveller Movement, LTAG were given the opportunity to pilot this vital service in Laois which proved to be an invaluable service to the community. It was a massive disappointment that due to funding not being granted this service had to be withdrawn. However, the staff in LTAG have not let this deter them and continue to support the community as best they can.
LTAG have proven the need for a youth project in Co. Laois and it is hoped that in 2025 funding will be achieved to further develop this service that is currently being undertaken by LTAG staff in their own time.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank LTAG’s staff who are all committed, dedicated and who work tirelessly to support and advocate for members of the Travelling community. Your dedication has enabled LTAG to grow to where it is today.
